FATOUMATA DIAWARA

Recorded at Edac Studio in Fino Mornasco (Como) under the direction of Andrea Fognini and Davide Lasala, and at Labo M in Paris, the new album "Massa" (meaning "The Eternal") by Malian singer, songwriter, and guitarist Fatoumata Diawara is both a moving tribute to her late father and an invitation to accept one’s destiny as an indispensable part of the human experience.
The eleven songs on the album (which is both introspective and energetic) explore personal and universal themes such as motherhood, faith, memory, and resilience. In these songs, the African musical tradition of which Fatoumata Diawara is a champion blends with pop and modern arrangements orchestrated by producer M (the stage name of Matthieu Chedid, who has also collaborated with Sean Lennon). On these tracks, M accompanies the artist by drawing on his skills as a multi-instrumentalist alongside a team of musicians that includes Lasala (acoustic guitar), bassist Marilena Montarone, and drummer Matteo Marchese.
